Aislinn Prendergast (Senior Girls) and Ian Lawford (Junior Boys) were selected in the 16-member Victorian Schools Team to contest the Australian School Championships in Dubbo, NSW. They join Belinda Lawford, a member of the 2007 Australian Junior World Championships team, in the trio of Eureka juniors who will be competing in Dubbo 7-15 July. Sunday morning’s final selection trial at a misty Mt Beckworth provided a tough test in granite terrain similar to what they will encounter in Dubbo. Aislinn was a clear winner in the Senior Girls competition winning by a 4-minute margin from Jasmine Sunley, while Ian who was in second place with three controls to go, lost time after the specatator control to finish 4th behind Nillumbik’s Dave Mallen. The team elected Aislinn the girls captain (for the third year running) and Max Neve as the boys captain. Peta Whitford thanked Eureka for providing the competition maps, the controls, and finish system – another Eureka contribution to the Victorian Junior Squad.
