Hi everyone

Eureka has had several big successes over the past few weeks – so here goes

1 Aislinn Selected for ’13 WOC in Finland. After the selection trials in ACT and trials for athletes overseas, the selection committee has made decisions which sees Aislinn selected for the Long Distance and alternate for the Sprint. Relay position number 3 is up for grabs based on form once they have run in individual races in Finland. So Eureka has two athletes bound for World Championships – Aislinn for Finland and Ian Lawford for JWOC in Czech Republic – and JWOC Coach Roch Prendergast leaves on 20 June. Eureka wishes them well – and hope they keep us up to date with their experiences overseas.

2 Eureka Riders Score Medals at the Victorian MTBO Champs The last weekend in April saw 9 Eureka members attempt the three-race Victorian MTBO Champs in Castlemaine and Rushworth. The weather was crisp but with a warm sun and little breeze conditions were near perfect – and our riders rose to the occasion. Dale Ann (W70) picked up 3 golds, Declan (M-16) – 2 golds, Tom (M-14) – 1 gold, Blake (M70) – 1 gold, 2 Silvers, Harrison (M-12) – 1 Silver, and Monica (W40) – 2 Bronzes. Quite a good haul considering this was the best attended Vic titles ever so competition – particularly in the Masters classes – was keen. With three mtbo events coming up in June (2 of them organised by Eureka!) we should see some real progress with our three developing juniors – Declan, Harrison and Tom.

3 Sailors’ Creek sees Eureka Score 117 Rockhopper Points Last Sunday a good Eureka turnout at Daylesford saw local runners score more points – 117 – than we have in the last two years. Our best point totals (10 for 1st, 9 for 2nd …etc) recently were at Cotty Creek in 2011 (121 pts) and the 2011 Vic Relays (120 pts). Then we have to go back to 2007 for a better effort when we streaked into 2nd place in the State Rockhopper Standings. So with our outstanding day at Sailors Creek – see the individual results on Eventor – and just click on the EU logo for all the club results on the same screen. Impressive! With several of our local talent missing on Sunday is 130 points possible in the next few State events?

4 Eureka Starts a Local Series of Ballarat Events Thanks to our May club meeting a tentative roster of one event each month has been scheduled when there is no state event on. The first event will be THIS SUNDAY – May 26th – at Nerrina (Nuggety Dam) run by the Lawfords. More information will be on the VOA website / Eventor event list TONIGHT. If this EU initiative is to be a success, we will need Eureka / Ballarat people to show up and try either one of the two Hard courses, a Moderate or an Easy course. The Lawfords will be using SportIdent controls – but if you don’t have an SI stick just roll up and use one of the club’s (compasses available too). Start times will be available from 10 to 11.30 – so be early and then enjoy a morning tea afterwards. These events are to develop skills and practice new techniques within 20 minutes drive of Ballarat – so please support our effort!

Cheers
Blake
