Hi everyone

1 A Night Of Reminiscence & Bonhomie Undertaken Namely (for) Norwood Yeomanry (from our creative Mark). Twenty-eight Eurekans celebrated with Tom and Leslie at the Crown Hotel in Buninyong on Saturday night. It was a special night highlighted by the presentation of a framed composite picture by President Mark to the Norwoods. Then Tom entertained the crowd by telling a few stores about his memories of more than 38 years of orienteering. Tom’s relay win at the Asian-Pacific Games in Japan prompted the story about how three bearded Aussies won the gold medal – despite changing the running order minutes before the first runner entered the forest. Then it was down to some serious eating and discussing the “Norwood Years” since Tom helped found the club in 1975. Just as the meal was drawing to a close, Blake popped up with an 11-question (or was it more) quiz where most of the answers involved the amazing accomplishments of Tom and Lesley. Even the Norwoods had difficulty with several questions, but Blake gave credit with “near enough” which has always been Tom’s approach to our favourite sport. It seemed like time just flew by as we talked and talked as everyone shared little stories of the early Eureka times. Thanks to everyone who attended – a special NORBUNNY night!

2 Declan Dickson Wins at the Victorian Schools MTBO Championships. Declan added another title to his growing list of mtbo victories in 2013 with an impressive win in the Solo Junior Boys division at the Vic Schools MTBO Championships in windy and rainy conditions at Lysterfield Lake Park on Friday, 9 August. He now has won the Vic Middle, Vic Long, Aus Middle, Aus Long and Vic Schools titles since April. Only the Aus MTBO Sprint at Canberra remains in mid October to cap off a truly remarkable year for the almost-15 year old from St Patrick’s College. Declan was only disappointed that he could not have interested some of his cycling mates from St Pat’s in time to meet the entry deadline, but he plans to head up a team of 15-20 riders from Ballarat at the Vic MTBO Schools Champs in 2014 at Woodland near Greendale. Congratulations Declan – and keep up the training for Canberra on 19-20 October.

3 Lake Eppalock State event deadline. Just entered the state foot-o event at Eppalock next Sunday – 18 August – and noticed that the deadline for entries is tomorrow night – Monday 12 August. So please consider making the trip over to an area that should be dry and challenging – get your entries in via Eventor on Monday so you don’t pick up late entry fees or miss out on a map altogether. Hope to see over 15 Eurekans sign up as we are only 4 points out of 4th place (EU=563, YV =567) on the Rockhopper ladder having picked up 43 points on Yarra Valley at the Jim Crow event.

Cheers
Blake
