Victorian Club Relays    Well we came, we ran and scored a mammoth 246 points – best on the day by 90 points over DROC, and the best performance by Eureka (our previous best was 120). But the best news, it was the Eureka juniors – Connor and Chris Ovenden, Patrick and Benjamin Gray, Finn and Huon Gordon and Declan Dickson  – who took the top three podium places in Course 4 (a clean sweep!). Complete results are on the Eventor webpage under the documents (not results) on the Victorian Club Relays information page. And it could have been even better – but you always say that after “if only” and “just that one bad control” incidents are eliminated. As selector I was most pleased that NONE of the juniors punched the wrong control and all but one of the 9 teams finished their courses. Many were running their first relay and Chris Ovenden was running his first event! Impressive! The weather was a bit ordinary – showers and wind for much of the day – but the presentations were handed out in sunshine! So well done Eureka – doubling our best ever point total at the relays!

Keep running and practice over the next month and a half because the last two park/street “Sprint into Spring” events are in Ballarat – Saturday 30 November. Then Sunday morning, 1 December the Victorian Sprint Champs will be staged around the Ballarat Grammar campus in Wendouree.

Special congratulations to Ian Lawford for winning the first event in the “Sprint into Spring” series in Melbourne yesterday with new member Brodie Nankervis a narrow third. Ian took the lead mid way thru the 28 control course – never headed after control #19 – and went on to win by 26 seconds with Brodie only 53 seconds behind. This EU duo look to be a great stimulus to the sprint racing futures of both young athletes. Now it is up to our young juniors to have a go at these events during October and November in preparation for the 1st December final at Ballarat Grammar.

Cheers Blake
