WE ARE BACK!!

Recent updates to the COVID-19 restrictions in Victoria mean that we are finally able to offer some Park and Street training events!!

We have TWO events organised before Christmas, and another TWO in January, with many thanks to Warwick and James. Start time is 6.00pm for all events, please aim to arrive by 5.45pm for the briefing. We will be finished by 7pm. Checkpoints will be touchless and COVID-safe, using either written-down codes or SportIdent, so bring your SI stick or you can borrow a club one at the event. Entry fee is the usual $5 per individual or group. Please also check in with the QR code at each event for contact tracing purposes. We hope you are able to attend one or all of these:

Yuille Homestead
Start at the east end of Vickers St in Sebas at the shelter in the park (QR)

Wednesday Dec 23
Sparrow Ground
Start at the shelter near the old oval off Spencer St between Kline St and Richards St, Canadian (QR)

Thursday Jan 14
Ballarat Nth/Black Hill
Start at the shops at the corner of Walker St and Simpson St (QR)

Thursday Jan 21
Lake Gardens
Start at the Lake Gardens shops, enter on Lake Gardens Ave then right on Cedars Grv (QR)

Eureka Orienteers Run and Ride the Country!

Eureka Orienteers is a Ballarat-based recreation club, responsible for the organisation and promotion of Orienteering in central Western Victoria. Orienteering is a family of outdoor sports that involves navigating with a map and compass around a set course, defined by several control points, in a timed race against the clock.

Orienteering is unique in that everyone involved at an event can participate or compete on exactly the same maps and terrain. From rank beginners, to world-class elite athletes, to family groups, and nature-loving bushwalkers. Participant ages typically range from under 5, through to 95 plus, and events cater for all ages and levels of fitness, maturity and experience. Orienteering develops skills in navigation, self-confidence, self-reliance and environmental appreciation, which are all great life skills to develop.

Hi all,
Small but enthusiastic turnout for BUNS last night, with the highlight being David Brownridge (on foot) narrowly beating Blake Gordon (on MTB), to get all 20 checkpoints in around 38 minutes for close to 8km of running!
Next BUNS is at the Chisholm Street Reserve shelter shed, next Wednesday 10 March – David Brownridge organising. Meet from 5.30pm for a 6pm start, usual $5 entry fee: goo.gl/maps/bgbJTinT4Z3xWgpY7

[EurekaO] Petticoat Gully Event 14 March

Hello all Finally the day has come. Real orienteering returns to a forest near you!
EU are organising an event, part of the OV Autumn Series, on 14 March ( Sunday week) at Petticoat Gully. So dust off your compasses and come along. There is also an event on Mt Alexander on the Saturday. You’ll find all the details are on Eventor. Note that, as a Covid requirement, it is strictly pre entry. There will be NO enter on the day. Entries close this Thursday night ( tomorrow). So enter now. It will be good to see and big EU turnout so we can reacquaint ourselves with each other after the long lay off.
Of course, since it is an EU event, we will need assistance to run the show and would appreciate it if you could let me know if you are available to help on the day. All the usual jobs need doing – Set up, parking, starts (it is also a NOL event and those people have allocated start times), download, pack up.

Hi everyone,
I’ve set a BUNS run at Canadian Lakes for tomorrow evening, meet at the usual picnic shelter on Canadian Lakes Blvd (just after the roundabout off Main Rd) from 5.30pm for a 6pm start.
I’ve also put the course up on MapRun, so if you’d prefer to use your phone and MapRun to record your progress, rather than a pencil to write down the letters, please bring along a charged-up mobile device with MapRunF or MapRun6 installed.

Hi All,

BUNS/Street-O event Back On this week!

After last week's sudden Lockdown we had to cancel last week's event, so this week we are back on and we will use the planned area of Brown Hill.

Slight change, it will be on Thursday evening starting at 6pm. 25th Feb Instead of Wednesday 24th Feb

Start will be at the Wallaby Track Parkrun Start Area (the bridge behind the playground next to the Brown Hill Pub on Humffray st N. get there before 6pm, for a 6pm start finish at 6:45. $5 per individual/team.

Hope everyone is keeping safe and sane! It will all pass very soon.

Just an Update this weeks BUNS/StreetO is unfortunately not possible with the lockdown. We have postponed it by a week so Brown Hill event will be on Thursday 24th, pushing the following weeks event at Canadian Lakes Back as well to the 3rd of March.

We will provide an update next week for the event details.

Until then, stay safe and it will all pass before we know it.

Just letting you all know that we are running an BUNS/StreetO Event Series.

Big Shout out to Warwick W for hosting the First one for February is going to be this Wednesday the 10th in Golden Point. START at 6pm so arrive 5:45 for a briefing, chat and get ready to go. $5 per team/individual.

Start is at Barkly Square Carpark 1, on Princess Street Ballarat East (Behind the old Ballarat tech) See Map Below.

Hope to see you all there! Bring your friends and family. Usual Format of Buns Point score, and try not to be late Back!

Hi All,

We have decided to set a small series of Ballarat Urban Navigation Series/ Street-O events in the coming weeks.

The proposed dates we would like to set would be the:

10th Feb – 6pm Golden Point (If anyone is available to volunteer to set, to give Warwick a chance to run Let me know ASAP!)

17th Feb – Rod will Set Brown Hill area TBC

24th Feb

3th March

10th March

We have a few volunteers keen already to set a few which is great, but we are always in need of some extras to give us a hand.

If you are available to set any of these dates, and have a preferred area you would like to run in, give me a shout and we can go from there.

Otherwise invite your friends and Family and come along to these Events.

Just a reminder that Warwick is setting the event tonight at 6pm from the shops in Lake Gardens – follow the directions below. Hope to see you there! It is a 60 minute scatter event for walkers/runners – and given the flatness of the terrain should make it possible to get a “perfect score” of 20/20 controls. Bring your bike if you want to make the course a different kind of challenge.

James here. Just a quick reminder there is a Buns type streeto event this afternoon. At sparrow ground in Canadian this afternoon starting on Spencer st.

Starts 6pm. Arrive a 5:45pm.

Goes for 45 minutes or less.

Hope to see you there. All welcome. Bring family, bring friends.

**non SI event. We’ll keep the prices down to 2020 standard – $5 per group or individual entry (pays for the map and the VOA levy for park/street events). Tell your friends and just show up at 5.45 to get instructions on the night – tips for newcomers – and general Q&A at physical distancing.
