Hi all,

It’s Club Relays time again, so please read the attached info, then let me know by return email which course you would like to enter. If you already know who you want to run with, sending me a complete team of three is even better!

I need team structures/numbers in by Friday next week 29 March.

The Club Relays are quite relaxed, great fun, and also a great opportunity to earn a lot of points in one go for Eureka in the Rockhopper Trophy.

Looking forward to a good turnout.

Regards, Ian

Hello Eurekans!

RE: Creswick Event @ Petticoat Gully, 10th of March, 2019

I am writing about our event at Petticoat Gully, Creswick, on Sunday, the 10th of March. The planning and decisions are well under way. So this email was just a request for any assistance you could offer on the day with various roles, such as parking, registration tent, start duties etc.

Most everyone should be able to get a run if they want but I was just hoping if you reply and let me know how you can help, I will collate and send out a roster of duties!

Please let Gary (me!) know by sending a reply to me at the following email address.

Thank-you and looking forward to seeing you soon!

Kind regards,

Gary Buchan

Hi all Perfect early autumn weather, coupled with a map that includes parks, bush along the Canadian Creek and streets in changing suburbs, should make for a challenging 45 minutes of walking, jogging or riding. Using the new format with smartphones – it’s easy – just download the Map Run app free and bring your smartphone. If you haven’t got one – come along and tag along with someone who has! Maps will be distributed prior to 5 pm. So come early and find out all about this form of simple map navigation. All participants get a paper map – cost $5 per map. So bring your dog, or bring your pram, or let the kids tag along! Warwick’s course will challenge and make a perfect end to this weekend. Just a suggestion that with the upcoming events, would it be possible to have an event created on Facebook?  That would allow the event to be shared on other Facebook pages for the Ballarat area.

[EurekaO] Ballarat Maprun

We are all set to go for the Maprun at Victoria Park tomorrow. We’ve tested the app and course and all is good. And we’ve printed maps.

Now we need to see you there, ready to start at 5pm.

As per my earlier email, download the app before you come (or we can help you when you arrive). Make sure your phone is charged as running the app does use some battery power.

As mentioned, the course is “open” for use at any time, but it would be great if you could come at 5pm tomorrow (Sunday) as we’d like to make it a social occasion as well. There is a BBQ nearby so we plan to have a picnic dinner after the run.

Hope to see many of you there.

Cheers

Jenny

[EurekaO] Ballarat Map Run

Posted by at 3:23 pm  Quicknews  Comments Off on [EurekaO] Ballarat Map Run
Jan 032019

The first event of our Ballarat Map Run series (formerly our BUNS Series) will be held this Sunday 6 January, brought to you by Geoff.

The venue is Victoria Park and the start time is 5pm. We will meet at the North end of the Park, just off Sturt St, near the toilet block. Look for the Eureka banner.

The format will be the same as previously- 20 checkpoints to visit in 45 mins, 10 points per checkpoint, 10 penalty points deducted for each minute or part thereof you are late returning.

We have, however, moved to using the Maprun smartphone application. For those of you unfamiliar with this technology, your smartphone is used to record your visits to the checkpoints and for timing. No markers are placed at the checkpoints. Instead your phone will beep and buzz when you reach the location, confirming that you are at the correct place. The map, showing the checkpoints will show on your phone but we will also provide a paper copy of the map and course. An advantage of using this technology is that, since no markers are put out,  the course can remain open for an extended period. So if you are unable to come at 5pm on Sunday, it is possible to still do the course at some other time that suits you.

You need to download the MapRun app before the event (or come to the event early and get some assistance with this).

So, before reading on, grab your smartphone and install the Maprun app from the Apple Store or Google Play! You will be asked to enter your basic personal details when you first run the app.

More details about when the event is open/ map will be available/event name etc will be sent out soon.

We hope to make the event a social occasion too so have chosen a venue with a BBQ nearby, hoping people will be able to stay after their run and have a picnic dinner.

So we hope to see you on Sunday at 5pm. Meanwhile download the app,  charge your phone and grab some snags for the barbie.

(If you have any questions about the app and how it all works, email Ian Chennell ian@chennell.com    He’ll be able to help!)

See you then

Jenny
