Latest news on Woowookarung (formerly Canadian Regional Park) “Place of Plenty”

At the FoCC AGM (Friends of Canadian Corridor which Eureka OC is a member) on Wednesday, 18 October, the 2018 Committee was elected. The 2018 office holders elected are: Bob Hartmann (President), Linda Zibell (VP), Jeff Rootes (Sec’t), Peter Darveniza (Treasurer).

Siobhan Rogan (Parks Vic, Regional Head Ranger) gave an outline of what has been achieved in the past year listing 8 key areas for discussion before the draft plan is submitted in February 2018. Eureka made a one-page submission in August (Blake) outlining the needs of orienteering in the new park (attached). Now all members have a chance to comment to Parks Victoria at two upcoming Open House meetings at Earth Science Centre, Olympic Ave, Mt Clear (across from Mt Clear Sec College)
on Sunday, 22nd October, 12.30 to 4.00pm AND Sunday 29 October 1.00 to 4.00pm

The 8 areas developed by the planners so far:
1 Nature of the Ecology
2 Consolidation of the Park boundaries and roads
3 Regeneration of the forest
4 Management and preservation of open spaces (grasslands and dams)
5 Developing of circuits, trails and walking/riding loops
6 Connection to the City of Ballarat (signage and pathways to the west of the park)
7 Stories or History of the Park
8 Events and Activities – “Healthy People Healthy Parks”

I urge you to go along and make comments on the plans – and/or join the conversation at www.parks.vic.gov.au or email woowookarung@parks.vic.gov.au listing your ideas for the new park. The park is “the lungs of Ballarat”  and site of our first EU maps back in 1975. Please make your ideas and hopes for the inclusive park known.
